To avoid green hair and pool water damage...

Before going into the pool, whether it's chlorine or salt water:

1. Fully wet hair with non-pool water. Either in shower or with a spray bottle.
(Hair that is already saturated with liquid (filtered water is best) has no room to absorb more liquid. ie: the bad chlorine/salt water.)

2. Spray in a pre-swim conditioner and comb through. (I carry a great selection of choices, but Monat's Restore Leave-In conditioner is best and can be found here: Restore Leave-In Conditioner)

3. Braid hair or wrap in tight bun. (pony tail will do if hair is too short)
(This prevents tangles and also keeps some of the hair from touching the water, and from drying and reabsorbing more chlorine/salt water.)

After swimming:

1. Do NOT brush or comb until hair has been washed. Do use your "Wet Brush" to detangle after washing!
(Pool water changes the PH of your hair, drying it out and making it more brittle. Combing through it while in this state will cause more breakage and thus more tangles in the future.)

2. Wash hair ASAP after swimming with clarifying or chlorine stripping shampoo.

Let shampoo sit for 5-15 minutes.

3. Let conditioner sit in hair for at least 2 minutes.
(The longer the better.)

And on a regular basis:

1. Keep up with your regular trims every 6-8 weeks during the swimming months to make sure any damage doesn't travel too far up the hair shaft.
